Intelligence test

Intelligence is generally everything we measure human performance, such as thinking, perception, problem solving, and ability to manage it. Intelligence test is the area where different parts of the person’s brain are processed and where we look at which regions are more dominant, and in which different functions of the brain their strengths or weaknesses are involved, and it is based on performance. There are many intelligence tests used in the world and Turkey. But we’re talking about the most widely used intelligence test three different practices in Turkey. The first of these is the WISC-R intelligence scale for children 3, the second is the WISC-R intelligence scale for children 4, and finally the Stanford-Binet intelligence scale. This kind of intelligence test, which tests with international credibility and adapted for Turkey. We need these tests the most in our clinical studies.

What is an intelligence test?

While performing the intelligence test, it is very important that the room where the intelligence test will be performed is calm and designed in a way that does not distract the child. While conducting intelligence tests, we apply it both individually and as a group. These are the tests we have applied in the form of questions and answers by sitting face to face with the practitioner and the child in the intelligence tests we apply individually. When applying group intelligence tests, we can call them intelligence tests that we apply to children consisting of a few people, and that the people in the group have solved individually.

In which situations should the intelligence test be done?

When we observe children who have problems such as wetting, hyperactivity, fear of school, introversion, learning difficulties, we can perform intelligence tests by both experts and family encouragement. In this way, what kind of education should the child receive according to his age group, what activities we can do to determine the strengths and weaknesses of the child and to support his weaknesses and to learn and increase his strengths are the tests we have done to learn and guide the family, teachers and experts.

How should intelligence test results be interpreted?

When interpreting the intelligence test results, we look at the range of the child according to his or her age group. There are also intelligence tests in which we interpret the child’s other abilities and performances. While looking at these, when we look at the child’s learning difficulties, hyperactivity, attention deficit, and their own age groups, they are the tests we have done to measure the level of motor coordination skills.

What are the types of intelligence tests?

The most common intelligence tests with reliability and validity in our country are Stanford-Binet, Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children IV and Leiter International Performance Test.

Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children IV

It is the most up-to-date of the tests used to evaluate the cognitive abilities and skills of children and adolescents (6-16 years). The test is very useful and useful for learning the child’s cognitive ability, interests, strengths and weaknesses. In addition to the child’s general intelligence level, it provides a comprehensive evaluation of verbal, perceptual, time-efficient use and attention, concentration and memory skills.

Stanford-Binet Test

It is applied to children between the ages of 2-6. It provides information about the child’s fine motor development, hand-eye coordination, visual memory, auditory memory, and allows comparison of reasoning skills to their peers.

Leiter International Performance Test

It is a non-language based performance test that aims to determine the mental performance of children with hearing and speech problems. It is applied to individuals between the ages of 2-18.
